Supporting Our Community: A Heart-Warming Visit to St. Augustine’s Centre in Halifax

At the start of the week, residents from Lee Mount and Park View Care Homes came together for a wonderful cause — to support our local community by creating a donation hamper for the St. Augustine’s Centre in Halifax.

Over several days, our residents thoughtfully collected non-perishable food items, toiletries, and household essentials. With lots of creativity and teamwork, they decorated a donation box filled with care, colour, and kindness.

Once everything was packed and ready, our team proudly delivered the hamper to St. Augustine’s Centre. We received such a warm welcome from the staff and volunteers, who were incredibly thankful for the support.

After the delivery, we stayed for a lovely cup of tea and enjoyed some friendly conversation with members of the centre and local community. It was a heart-warming experience filled with laughter, connection, and shared stories. To our delight, the team even invited us back to enjoy a community meal together next week!

This meaningful outing reminded us just how powerful it is to give back and stay connected. It gave our residents a chance to step outside the care home, meet new people, and feel part of something bigger.

At Lee Mount and Park View Care Homes, we’re proud to support local initiatives and encourage our residents to stay involved in the community. We’re already looking forward to our next visit to St. Augustine’s Centre — and to building more wonderful friendships along the way.

A Day at the Rugby: Supporting the Halifax Panthers!

Earlier this week, residents from Park View and Lee Mount Care Homes enjoyed a lively and memorable day out at a live rugby match, cheering on our local team — the Halifax Panthers.

The weather may have been a little wet, but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. For several residents, this was their very first time attending a live rugby game — and it turned out to be a fantastic experience from start to finish. From the energy in the stadium to the excitement of the crowd, everyone was fully immersed in the match day atmosphere.

To top it all off, the Halifax Panthers secured a brilliant win, which made the day even more special.

We were warmly welcomed by the dedicated teams at the Halifax Panthers Foundation, along with the LDSL and PDRL squads, whose enthusiasm, kindness, and inclusivity made the visit truly memorable. Their support throughout the day was greatly appreciated by both residents and staff.

Days like this go far beyond entertainment. Outings to local events provide residents with valuable opportunities to connect with their community, explore new interests, and enjoy meaningful shared experiences. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, lively conversations, and lasting memories being made.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone at the Halifax Panthers and the Panthers Foundation for their incredible hospitality. We’re proud to continue building strong partnerships that enrich the lives of our residents and promote inclusive, community-based living.

A Wonderful Autumn Day at Lee Mount

Autumn at Lee Mount is always something special — a season where nature’s colours inspire creativity, togetherness, and warm-hearted memories. At Lee Mount, we recently enjoyed a truly magical autumn day — filled with creativity, connection, and community spirit. 🎨 Crafting with Heart Our morning began with seasonal arts and crafts, where residents painted a giant tree and decorated it with vibrant autumn leaves. This wasn’t just any tree — it’s part of our ongoing Positive Tree project, where uplifting words and ideas are added to inspire smiles every day. 🧺 Picnic in the Park With the golden sun warming our faces, we headed to the park for a relaxing picnic. Residents and staff shared delicious lunch, friendly conversations, and the joy of fresh autumn air with neighbours from the community. 📖 Stories that Bring History to Life Back at home, Howard took us on a fascinating journey through Halifax’s past, sharing tales of some of the area’s most famous figures. 🌿 A Touch of Gardening Joy To finish the day, Susan and a few residents gave our garden a seasonal spruce-up — adding a little extra beauty to our home. 💛 A Day to Remember It was a day full of laughter, sunshine, and cherished moments — exactly the kind of days we treasure at Lee Mount.

Resistance Band Exercise Session at a Care Home

Resistance bands offer low-impact strength training that supports daily activities like sit-to-stand transfers and walking. They help counter age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia) and may even improve bone density through gentle loading effects.

Physical Strength, Mobility & Fall Prevention

Resistance band workouts are highly effective for seniors:
  • They help preserve muscle mass and combat sarcopenia, improving independence in daily tasks like standing or walking.
  • Bands deliver low-impact resistance—gentle on joints while building bone density and strength.
  • Regular resistance training improves balance and stability, reducing falls.
  • Clinical studies report significant gains in walking speed, endurance, and single-leg balance after weeks of elastic band exercise.

Cognitive & Emotional Well‑Being

  • Physical exercise supports mental health—boosting mood, self-esteem, and cognitive function.
  • Structured group activity encourages social interaction, decreases loneliness, and builds community.
  • In participants with dementia, resistance training often improves attention, communication, and day‑to‑day engagement.
